Why might your IELTS results be delayed or withheld?

In certain situations, the release of results may be delayed or temporarily withheld to allow for additional verification. These procedures help protect the reliability of IELTS results, which are trusted by over 12,500 institutions worldwide.

Common reasons for delayed or withheld results include:

    • Additional verification of the test,
    • Random quality assurance checks,
    • Suspected malpractice or irregularities during the test,
    • Technical issues requiring investigation.

What to do if your IELTS result has been withheld

    1. Contact your test centre

Reach out to the centre where you took your IELTS test — they may be able to provide further information.

If you took your IELTS at Lang LTC, please email ielts@lang.com.pl or call (+48) 22 825 22 73.

    2. Review the IELTS Terms and Conditions

The reasons for delayed or withheld results are outlined in the IELTS Terms and Conditions — in particular, sections 5.10 and 5.11, which state that IELTS partners reserve the right to withhold or cancel results if there are concerns about the result’s validity or suspected violations of test procedures.

    3. Track your result status

Regularly check your email inbox and candidate portal for updates on the status of your test. Although delays are resolved as quickly as possible, the time frame may vary depending on the type of review being conducted.

    4. Request a review

If your result was withheld due to an investigation, you may submit a request for a review of the decision.

If you wish to appeal a decision made on your results, the IELTS Appeals Procedure is available at: http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/help/enquiries-and-appeals/

    5. Retaking the IELTS test

If you cannot wait for your result or prefer not to risk further delays, you may choose to take the IELTS test again.

If you have taken the test more than once, you can select which result to use — the choice is yours.

Tip: Schedule your test in advance

We recommend booking your test several months ahead of any application deadlines to avoid unexpected delays and reduce stress.

Out-of-Office Message in English – Examples and tips

Taking a holiday doesn’t mean leaving your clients or colleagues in the dark. A well-written out-of-office message (automatic email reply) is not only a matter of courtesy, but also a reflection of your company’s image and communication style.

Below, you’ll find a few tips and ready-to-use templates you can rely on during your time away from work.

    Table of contents:

    1. What should you write in an out-of-office message?
    2. What should a good out-of-office message include?
    3. Sample out-of-office messages in English
    4. What to avoid when writing an out-of-office message
    5. Summary

You can read this article in 4 minutes.

What should you write in an out-of-office message?

Before we move on to specific templates, let’s take a moment to consider what a well-written out-of-office message in English should actually include. It’s not just about letting people know you’re away – it’s also about setting expectations and maintaining a professional tone.

Whether you work in a large company or run your own business, it’s worth making sure your automatic response is clear, polite, and helpful to the person trying to reach you.

What should a good out-of-office message include?

A good out-of-office message should be short, polite, and to the point. There’s no need for long explanations – the key is to make sure the recipient quickly understands what’s going on and when to expect a reply.

If you’re wondering how to write an effective out-of-office message in English, make sure to include these essentials:

    • A message that you are out of the office – ideally right at the beginning. Use a simple sentence like I’m currently out of the office or I’m on vacation until [date].
    • The date of return or absence – be clear about when you’ll be back or available again. This helps manage expectations and avoids confusion.
    • A contact person – if someone is covering for you, it’s helpful to include their name and email. A sentence like If your matter is urgent, please contact [name] at [email] is more than enough.

    Sample out-of-office messages in English

    Classic and formal

    Subject: Out of Office

Thank you for your message. I am currently out of the office and will return on [date].
During this time, I will have limited access/no access to email.
If your matter is urgent, please contact [name] at [email].

    Best regards,
    [Your Name]

    Vacation-style, but professional

Subject: Out of Office – Summer Break

    Hi there!
I’m currently enjoying a short break and will be back on [date]. I’ll do my best to respond as soon as I return.

In the meantime, you can reach [colleague’s name] at [email].

    Warm regards,
    [Your Name]

With a touch of humor (for less formal industries)

    Subject: Out of Office

    Hello!
I’m currently out of office, soaking up the sun and pretending email doesn’t exist.
I’ll be back (reluctantly) on [date].
For anything urgent, contact [name] at [email].

    Cheers,
    [Your Name]

What to avoid when writing an out-of-office message

Even short automated replies can make a strong impression – for better or worse. Below are the most common mistakes people make when writing an out-of-office email in English and how to avoid them. Keeping these in mind will help you write a message that’s clear, polite, and professional.

    • Don’t promise to reply immediately upon return – be realistic. It’s better to say I’ll respond shortly after I return than to overpromise.
    • Don’t forget to update your return date – an outdated message can make you look disorganized or careless.
    • Don’t include too many personal details – avoid sharing vacation destinations or private reasons for your absence. Keep it neutral and professional.

    Pro Tip

Encourage your whole team to align their autoresponder tone and structure. This small effort builds a consistent and professional brand image – even when everyone’s away on holiday.

    Summary

A well-prepared out-of-office message in English is a simple but effective way to stay professional and helpful, even when you’re not available. A short, friendly message that includes the key details will let the person on the other end know what to expect and how to proceed.

Błąd: Pisanie całego maila w jednym akapicie

Poprawnie: Używaj akapitów i odstępów: wstęp – treść – zakończenie

    Brak świadomości kulturowej

Nawet dobrze skonstruowana wiadomość może zostać źle odebrana, jeśli nie uwzględnia różnic kulturowych.

Translating too literally from your native language

Many people write in English by translating word-for-word from their native language, which often leads to unnatural or confusing expressions.

Incorrect: “I greet you warmly” (literal translation of Polish “Pozdrawiam Cię serdecznie”)

Correct: “Best regards” or “Warm wishes”

Incorrect: “I have a request to you.” (literal translation of Polish “Mam do ciebie prośbę.”)

Correct: “I have a favor to ask.” or “I’d like to ask you for something.”

Excessive politeness or overly formal tone

While politeness is appreciated, overly elaborate phrasing can come off as insincere or off-putting.

Incorrect: “Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to kindly ask if you could possibly…”

Correct: “Could you please let me know if…”

Incorrect: “It would be of great pleasure to me if…”

Correct: “I’d really appreciate it if…”

    Incorrect use of tenses

Mixing up English tenses or using them in the wrong context is a frequent issue.

Incorrect: “I have seen him yesterday.”

    Correct: “I saw him yesterday.”

Incorrect: “I am working here since 2018.”

Correct: “I have been working here since 2018.”

    Confusing false friends

Some English words look familiar to native language speakers but have a different meaning.

Incorrect: “Actual situation” (thinking it means “aktualna sytuacja”)

    Correct: “Current situation”

Incorrect: “Eventually, we will contact you.” (intending to use Polish word “ewentualnie”, which means “possibly”)

Correct: “Possibly, we will contact you.” (“eventually” actually means “finally”)

    Being too direct

In English-speaking business cultures, being too direct can come across as rude or confrontational.

    Incorrect: “You are wrong.”

Correct: “I’m not sure I agree.” or “That’s an interesting point – here’s another perspective.”

Incorrect: “You didn’t do it correctly.”

Correct: “There seems to be a mistake – maybe we can take another look?”

    Lack of clarity in communication

Vague or unclear wording often leads to misunderstandings and delays.

    Incorrect: “Let’s do it soon.”

Correct: “Let’s complete it by Friday at noon.”

Incorrect: “I’ll get back to you later.”

Correct: “I’ll get back to you by the end of the day.”

Using colloquial expressions in formal contexts

Some phrases work well in casual conversation but are inappropriate in formal business settings.

    Incorrect: “Hey guys!”

Correct: “Dear team” or “Hello everyone”

Incorrect: “No worries, I got it.”

Correct: “Not a problem, I’ll take care of it.”

    Using the wrong email sign-off

The closing line of your email should reflect the level of formality and your relationship with the recipient.

Incorrect: “Cheers” (in an email to an unfamiliar client)

    Correct: “Best regards” or “Sincerely”

Incorrect: “Yours faithfully” (in reply to a known contact)

Correct: “Yours sincerely” (when you know the recipient’s name)

    Poor punctuation and formatting

Lack of punctuation, poor formatting, or writing in one large block of text can make your message hard to follow.

Incorrect: “hi john can you send me the report asap thanks”

    Correct:

    “Hi John,

Could you please send me the report as soon as possible?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,

    Anna”

Incorrect: Writing the entire email as one paragraph

Correct: Use paragraphs and spacing: introduction – main content – closing

    Lack of cultural awareness

Even a grammatically correct message can backfire if it ignores cultural expectations or norms.

Incorrect: Starting an email with a direct request

Correct: “I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out to ask if…”

Incorrect: Pushing for a quick decision in a culture that values consensus

Correct: “Please let me know when would be a good time to discuss further.”

    Summary

Avoiding these mistakes is not just about grammar – it’s also about building professionalism and trust in business relationships. Investing in your communication skills means developing not only your language accuracy but also your cultural and interpersonal awareness.

IELTS a wiza do UK – jak zdobyć punkty językowe w systemie imigracyjnym?

    Data ostatniej aktualizacji: 05.06.2025

Wymagany poziom znajomości języka angielskiego – zgodnie z Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – zależy od rodzaju wizy, o którą się ubiegasz. Pełne informacje znajdziesz na stronie GOV.UK.

    Poniżej przedstawiamy szczegółowe wymagania punktowe:

    • Dla wiz wymagających poziomu A1 CEFR – należy uzyskać pozytywny wynik (Pass) z testu IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A1 (obejmuje tylko słuchanie i mówienie).

    Podsumowanie

IELTS to jeden z kluczowych elementów brytyjskiego systemu imigracyjnego.

  • IELTS and a UK Visa – How to gain language points in the immigration system?

IELTS and a UK Visa – How to gain language points in the immigration system?

Date of the last update: 05.06.2025

The introduction of the new points-based immigration system in the UK after Brexit significantly changed the requirements for work and student visas. A key component of this system is proving English language proficiency, with the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) playing a central role. In this post, we explain how the system works, what the current requirements are, and how to prepare for the test.

    Table of contentes:

    1. What is the UK’s points-based immigration system?
    2. What language levels are required?
    3. What IELTS scores are required for UKVI visa applications?
    4. How to prepare for the IELTS exam?
    5. Summary

What is the UK’s points-based immigration system?

The UK’s immigration system is based on a points-based model, which replaced the freedom of movement for EU citizens as of January 1, 2021. To qualify for a Skilled Worker visa, an applicant must earn 70 points. Of these, 10 points are awarded for proving English language skills at the B1 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This requirement is part of the mandatory criteria, alongside having a job offer from a licensed sponsor and earning at least the minimum salary threshold set by the UK government.

    What language levels are required?

The CEFR framework defines specific language proficiency levels expected from applicants:

    • B1 (Intermediate) – understanding the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, or leisure. The ability to produce simple connected text on familiar topics.
    • B2 (Upper Intermediate) – ability to interact with native speakers fluently and spontaneously and produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects, including abstract topics.

For most work visas, including the Skilled Worker visa, a B1 level is sufficient. However, educational institutions may require B2 or even C1 (Advanced) level for academic programs.

What IELTS scores are required for UKVI visa applications?

The level of English you need to demonstrate, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), depends on the type of visa you are applying for. You can find full details on the GOV.UK website.

Below are the detailed score requirements:

    • For visas requiring CEFR level A1 – you need a Pass in the IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A1 test (Listening and Speaking only).
    • For visas requiring CEFR level A2 – a Pass in the IELTS for UKVI Life Skills A2 test (Listening and Speaking only) is required.
    • For visas requiring CEFR level B1 – you can meet the requirement in two ways: achieve a Pass in the IELTS for UKVI Life Skills B1 test (Listening & Speaking) or score at least 4.0 in each component (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) of the IELTS for UKVI (General Training) test.
    • For visas requiring CEFR level B2 – you must achieve a minimum of 5.5 in each component of the IELTS for UKVI test.
    • For visas requiring CEFR level C1 – you must score at least 7.0 in all four sections of the IELTS for UKVI test.

How to prepare for the IELTS exam?

Preparing for IELTS involves more than just learning vocabulary – it’s a strategic process aimed at helping you earn the necessary points and improve your chances of visa approval.

Here are the most important steps:

    1. Expand your professional vocabulary regularly – especially if you’re applying for a work visa, it’s useful to know English terms specific to your industry or profession.
    2. Take a preparatory IELTS course – enroll in a course focused on the IELTS exam format and skills.
    3. Use the free official mobile appIELTS by IDP – This app offers daily exercises, test simulations, and tips. It’s a convenient and effective tool for learning on the go.
    4. Join a free IELTS Pre-Testing session Take a mock IELTS exam at our center under real test conditions. It’s a great way to assess your current level and identify areas for improvement.

    Summary

IELTS plays a crucial role in the UK’s immigration system. The right score can determine whether you’re granted a visa. Whether you’re planning to work or study in the UK, it’s essential to plan your preparation carefully, choose the appropriate test type, and stay up to date with evolving visa regulations.

Online language courses for companies – Are they as effective as in-person classes?

Date of the last update: 29.05.2025

Online language training is becoming an increasingly popular way to upskill employees within companies. When properly planned and delivered, online courses can be just as effective as traditional classroom-based training. However, success depends on several key factors: the quality of learning materials, instructor competence, lesson interactivity, and alignment with business needs. Below is a comparison of both learning formats, the factors influencing the effectiveness of online courses, and the qualities a language courses provider should have to meet the expectations of both HR departments and learners.

    Table of contents:

    1. Comparison: In-Person vs Online language courses

    4. What should a good online language course provider offer?
    5. Summary

You can read this article in 4 minutes.

Comparison: In-Person vs Online language courses

    Advantages of in-person courses:

    • Direct interaction with the teacher enables immediate correction of mistakes and faster development of speaking skills.
    • Fewer distractions compared to a home setting, which allows for better focus.
    • A motivating classroom environment fosters consistency and discipline in learning.

    Advantages of online courses:

    • No location constraints – learning can take place from anywhere, ideal for dispersed or remote teams.
    • Savings in time and costs related to commuting, room rental, and learning materials.
    • Access to a broader pool of teachers, including native speakers from various countries.
    • The ability to use interactive tools (games, quizzes, learning platforms), which enhance engagement and make learning more effective.

Key factors that influence the effectiveness of remote language courses

To ensure remote language training is successful, companies should consider the following:

    • Quality of materials and teaching methods: Engaging, interactive content adapted to the learners’ level.
    • Teacher support: Timely feedback and active guidance from instructors.
    • Learner engagement: Active participation and motivation are essential for achieving results.
    • Business relevance: Courses should incorporate industry-specific vocabulary and workplace communication scenarios.

Efficiency and return on investment (ROI)

Online courses typically offer greater flexibility and lower organizational costs, which often leads to a higher ROI. However, achieving good results depends on maintaining high instructional standards, using the right tools, and providing ongoing technical and methodological support. Flexible access to learning also boosts employee motivation, which in turn improves language outcomes.

What should a good online language course provider offer?

To meet the expectations of both HR departments and course participants, a professional training provider should offer:

    Flexibility and Business Adaptability

    • Custom-tailored programs aligned with the company’s goals and industry-specific needs (e.g. medical, technical, or financial language).
    • Flexible scheduling options, including classes outside standard work hours (e.g. between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.), to accommodate professional obligations.
    • A variety of course formats: online, in-person, hybrid, or intensive workshops – to match employee preferences and needs.

Qualified teaching staff and effective methodology

    • Experienced, certified language instructors who are skilled in online teaching.
    • A team of methodologists to adapt content and track learning effectiveness.
    • Use of modern, interactive materials and educational platforms to engage learners and support knowledge retention.
    • Organization of company-specific language events (e.g. webinars, training sessions, language challenges).

Comprehensive service and communication with HR

    • A dedicated client manager or project coordinator to oversee course delivery, maintain communication, and monitor progress.
    • Placement testing before the course starts, with regular updates on progress and attendance to allow HR to assess training effectiveness.
    • HR access to a dedicated online platform (HR Zone) with reports, schedules, test results – simplifying training management.

    High motivation and learner engagement

    • Positioning courses as a valuable employee benefit, increasing motivation and commitment to learning.
    • Use of interactive and engaging techniques, such as small group activities, communication exercises, and language games.

    Transparency and quality

    • Clear terms of cooperation, no hidden fees, and competitive pricing for online learning compared to in-person formats.
    • Consistent delivery of high-quality courses, regardless of pricing, ensuring real results and satisfaction for both employees and HR.

    Summary

Remote language training is a modern and effective solution for developing language skills within companies – especially those with dispersed teams or flexible work models. The effectiveness of online learning depends largely on course quality, instructor expertise, and the ability to align with business realities. Choosing a professional provider that meets high quality standards and offers comprehensive support guarantees successful learning outcomes, employee satisfaction, and a measurable return on investment for the organization.
